i started out with nothin' and still got most of it left

this shit right here
this shit right here
it's a lost fuckin' art my friend
and i may not be old enough
to hear the first sounds comin
but i know the moan of a midnight train
the sloughing of feet after a bottle o' shine
that lonesome alley that catches a sideways glance
fleeting, from the daytime squares
i know the sounds
the rooster in the morning
the groaning in your belly
from whatever it ails you
the night before
or whatever tomorrow may bring

i know i'm not the only one
who feels the way i do
when i hear
when i wanna stomp my foot
till it falls off
when i want to scream @ the gods
until i'm satisfied they are listening
when every bone in my body is jukin'
shuckin' and jivin'
like an ol' curtis lowe
bendin' strings doin' the "bus stop"
when your face screws itself all up
and anyone in their right mind lookin' in your direction
would think you ain't right
with the lord
or anyone in general

but when i hear this
sometimes i swear it's the only time
anything is right @ all

-his name is seasick steve

stone cold pimpin' cadillac muzik

you'll soon find out

i'm not the kind of fellow
who is real tall
but i ain't short
on words

that being said, i'm not even sure
where to start with this man
i don't write reviews for magazines
i'm not talented like all these other folks out here
in the blogosphere
but this man's words
are made up
of just about everything i could never find a way to say
and if that don't sum it up
well it's just going to have to

musically, the man is self taught
and if you are into folks' stories
well he's got one of his own
and if you couldn't tell by the score
you'll know after you google his name
a time or two

i saw him play @ the uptown theatre in KC
and the folks he plays with
make "the band", the backup singers for the stones, and collective genius of leon russel
seem like roadside buskers
he sat off to the side
not out front
just doing his thing
sometimes barely audible
i couldn't tell if someone was drivin' a railroad spike
straight through the middle of my soul
but i sure as hell wasn't gettin' up to find out
it was that good...

"Sometimes I feel so happy,
Sometimes I feel so sad.
Sometimes I feel so happy,
But mostly you just make me mad.
Baby, you just make me mad.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

Thought of you as my mountain top,
Thought of you as my peak.
Thought of you as everything,
I've had but couldn't keep.
I've had but couldn't keep.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

If I could make the world as pure and strange as what I see,
I'd put you in the mirror,
I put in front of me.
I put in front of me.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

Skip a life completely.
Stuff it in a cup.
She said, Money is like us in time,
It lies, but can't stand up.
Down for you is up."
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.

It was good what we did yesterday.
And I'd do it once again.
The fact that you are married,
Only proves, you're my best friend.
But it's truly, truly a sin.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes.
Linger on, your pale blue eyes."

Mexican Blackbird

"If you're down in Acuna and you ain't up to being alone
don't spend all your money on just any honey that's grown.
Go find the Mexican blackbird and send all your troubles back home.

They all call her her "puta" 'cause no one really knows her name.
She works the cantina, dancin' and a-lovin's her trade.
Her mama was Mez'can and her daddy was the ace of spades.

Oh, let's drive that old Chrysler down to Mexico, boy.
Said, keep your hands on the wheel there.
Oh, it sure is fine, ain't it?
Now, ya got it! Hand me another one of them brews from back there.
Oh, this is gonna be so good.

Mm, she's hot as a pepper but smooth as a Mexican brew.
So head for the border and put in an order or two.
The wings of the blackbird will spread like an eagle for you."

Oh, one more time,
can you roll me another Bull Durham, please?
Can't you do it with one hand, boy?
